Founded in 1994, Amazon is the largest e-commerce marketplace and cloud computing platform in the world. It has introduced ‘Frustration-Free Packaging’, made from 100% recyclable materials to substantially reduce waste generation.
Amazon’s ‘Frustration-Free Packaging’ is made from 100% recyclable materials, is easy to open, and is designed to ship products in their original packaging, which eliminates the need for an additional shipping box. Amazon designed this new packaging with its customers in mind, making it easier to remove products from their packages while also reducing waste.
One package at a time
Amazon first introduced its ‘Frustration-Free Packaging’ in 2008. Since then, the programme has grown to include a wide range of initiatives designed to optimise the packaging used in its fulfilment centres, and through its work with manufacturers, worldwide. In 2017, Amazon reduced packaging waste by 16% and avoided the use of 305 million delivery boxes due to its ‘Frustration-Free Packaging’ products.
Better for the planet
In addition to being easy to open, Amazon’s ‘Frustration-Free Packaging’ uses less packing materials, including zero wire ties, plastic bindings, or plastic clamshell casings. In addition, all of the materials are recyclable. So Amazon’s packaging is not only better for customers and sellers, it is better for the planet as a whole.
