Good Energy is on a mission to transform the UK energy market by helping homes and businesses to be part of a sustainable solution to climate change. It does this by sourcing its electricity from certified renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro and biofuel.
Transformation
Transformation of the energy market is desperately needed to help fight climate change. While global temperatures and sea-levels rise, the need to decarbonise our lifestyles is ever pressing. Often, individuals may feel powerless to make a positive impact. In response to this, by simply switching to a green energy supplier, Good Energy helps its customers cut an average of 50% from their annual carbon footprint.

A typical “energy mix” (the variety of sources of energy) may include energy generated from coal, natural gas and nuclear sources. All of the energy sold by Good Energy is matched to 100% of energy sourced from renewables. This includes solar, wind, hydro and biofuels. It is also supporting new projects such as the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon project in South Wales, which will help bring tidal power to the U.K. Once complete, the project will provide the same amount of electricity output as Good Energy’s wind and solar farms combined, representing only 10% of the project’s overall total output.
Independent
Good Energy buys its electricity from over 1,000 independent generators, from local farmers who provide dairy waste to sustainable urban solar farms. As well as supporting independents, it is also developing its own wind and solar farms to keep up with demand. Its own sources allow it to keep its prices stable, as well as reinvest in new generation capacity so that it remains able to deliver its commitment as it grows, transforming the U.K. energy market.
This story shows how Good Energy supports Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, specifically Target 7.2: “By 2030, increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.”
