Can smart marketing halt deforestation?
HH Global has been the leading marketing execution partner for outsourced procurement for over twenty-five years. It is committed to helping businesses make ecologically-sound paper and print choices. Supporting its strategy, “Innovation with Purpose”, HH Global established a global target to save 32,000 trees by helping its clients maximise both economic and environmental savings.
Paper is all around us. Whether used to entertain, educate or inspire, paper consumption drives one of the largest industrial sectors in the world. Although manufactured from trees – a renewable natural resource – the pace at which we consume paper suggests that some forests could vanish altogether within 100 years at the current rate.
Better, more sustainable choices exist. HH Global seeks to drive more responsible consumption patterns through promoting a series of better choices, from reducing paper weight to increasing the recycled content, and by making use of innovative digital technologies. It does this by calculating the environmental impact of marketing activities – in terms of trees, carbon, energy and water – and identifying alternatives with lesser impact. With this data, HH Global can balance economic and environmental savings for each client.

Conserving natural resources
HH Global has committed to working with its clients to reduce the environmental impact of its programmes by a total of 32,000 trees, 9,000 tonnes of CO2, 8,000 MWh of energy and 100 million litres of water this year. By driving activities towards making these savings, HH Global can help conserve natural resources and ensure that more trees remain firmly rooted in the ground.
No single business can protect the planet alone, so HH Global has developed key partnerships to help it increase its impact. An example of this is with Canopy, an organisation that works with the forest industry’s biggest customers and their suppliers to develop business solutions that protect endangered forests. Teaming up with Canopy has helped HH Global implement policies that reduce impacts on forests and ultimately ramifications to habitats and local communities. It also helps ensure that paper is not sourced from ancient and endangered forests. HH Global also recently joined the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), affirming its commitment to the environment and human rights.
This story shows how HH Global supports Goal 15: Life on Land, specifically Target 15.2: “By 2020, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally.”
