With personal development at the very centre of its work, it supports individuals and groups through practical, hands-on sustainability activities.

Down to Earth Building Our Future from Down to Earth Project.

In a nutshell

Down to Earth Project is an award-winning social enterprise with a track record in supporting people to bring about positive change in their lives through meaningful outdoor activities. Sustainability is embedded throughout its approach; inspiring change in every person the organisation works with. In addition, every penny earned goes to supporting its life-changing work, and to the creation of a brighter, better world.

A happy coincidence

Its inclusive and participant-led approach to accredited learning enables the Down to Earth Project to support a wide range of groups from diverse backgrounds. The organisation is passionate about working with so-called ‘hard to reach’ groups through a supportive and relationship-centred approach, which provides an opportunity to thrive through meaningful and practical activities. For Down to Earth, it’s simply a happy coincidence that hands-on, sustainable activities are a win-win solution for both the people it works with, and the wider environment.

Building Our Future

One in four people will experience poor mental health in their lives. Yet in Wales, 75% of people with mental illness will receive no help or treatment at all. The Down to Earth Project has created a programme, ‘Building Our Future’ that provides a unique opportunity for people who want a more practical approach to improving their mental health and well-being. The programme provides an environment where participants can learn new skills, stay physically active, and work as part of a team.

This story shows how Down to Earth Project supports Goal 4: Quality Education, specifically Target 4.7: “By 2030, ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.”
