Clean futures

Faced with rapid urbanisation, pollution, and congestion, it’s increasingly clear that we need to change how our cities function. Ford has reimagined the streets in a ‘City of Tomorrow’ in which people and goods can move more efficiently. Within that new future, the organisation foresees a time when driver-free cars become a fundamental part of our daily lives. That’s why Ford has been a leading player in the development of self-driving vehicles for more than 10 years, working with key partners to promote ideas and accelerate solutions.

Is there anybody there?

Self-driving vehicles offer many ways in which we can change how our cities work for the better. Ford believes it offers safer, more efficient, more widespread solutions that benefit cities, companies, and individuals. That’s why it’s working with partners such as Domino’s to develop pilot projects using self-driving vehicles. In fact, Ford’s target is to begin production by 2021 of a purpose-built, self-driving vehicle so the organisation can enable mobility services at scale.

A vision of tomorrow

Ford recognises that there is a long way to go to reach its utopian future. Indeed, driverless vehicles aren’t the total solution for urban congestion. Nonetheless, Ford is committed to further developing and researching its technology, believing in its vision of driver assist technologies becoming the building blocks for the future.

“This story shows Ford supports Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, specifically Target 11.6: “By 2030, reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including by paying special attention to air quality, municipal and other waste management.”
