To achieve this, the organisation aims to act as a steward for diversity and inclusiveness. Internally, it welcomes, accepts, and celebrates all employees based on individuality, and regardless of differences. Externally, H&M acts as a steward for diversity and inclusiveness by engaging with its customers through global marketing campaigns, and collections that aim to recognise and support everyone’s right to proudly be and express who they are.
Breaking the norm
In 2017, H&M launched the UNIdenim collection featuring six denim garments made to be worn by all customers, regardless of gender. The collection featured jackets, jeans, and shorts available in a variety of sizes. To further promote diversity and inclusivity, the collection was accompanied by an advertising campaign which featured male and female models wearing exactly the same outfits.
This story shows how H&M supports Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, specifically Target 10.2: “By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status.”
