How can farming improve land and soil quality?

Daylesford is one of the most sustainable organic farms in the UK. Farming sustainably over thirty-five years, its passion for real food is supported by its organic farming practices. In recognition of its commitment to provide healthy, high-quality food whilst respecting the land, Daylesford has won over 100 awards in the last few years alone.

A chain of goodness

Grow organic, taste organic. Daylesford believes that food grown well, beginning with healthy soil, triggers a “chain of goodness”, providing the best possible tasting food for people to enjoy. Its products have full organic certification from the Soil Association, a charity that campaigns for healthy, humane and sustainable food, farming and land use.

Led by its conscience

Daylesford aims to be a benchmark of sustainability and innovation in organic farming. Setting Daylesford apart, it has always believed in recognising the “true cost” to the planet and society when producing food using non-organic, less sustainable farming methods that damage ecosystems and deplete natural resources.

Daylesford aims for 100% self-sufficiency in its farming, striving to use no pesticides or fertilisers, managing field rotations, creating wildlife habitats, harvesting rainwater, installing solar panels and practicing animal husbandry of the highest welfare standards. It feeds its livestock a GM-free, organic, forage-based diet grown on its own farm.

By engaging only in organic farming, Daylesford ensures its food production system is sustainable and progressively improves land and soil quality.

This story shows how Daylesford supports Goal 2: Zero Hunger, specifically Target 2.4: “By 2030, ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality.”
