Missguided are on a mission. A mission to empower women from all corners of the globe. They have collaborated with Girls out Loud, a non-profit organisation, to support, inspire and educate the next generation of girls.
On a Mission
A study conducted between 2014 and 2015 by the Office of National Statistics revealed that one in four women, aged between 16 and 24 had dealt with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. But, statistics show that even girls as young as 5 are worried about their body image – with 80% going on diets before the age of 10.
A Desire to Inspire
Missguided, in aid of International Women’s Day, have made their very own pledges to combat those stark figures, by donating 8% of gross profits from their “Makeherstory” items to the “Girls out Loud Foundation.”
By collaborating with Girls out Loud, Missguided are helping to instil confidence in young women by spreading love, positivity and acceptance. They seek to address the difficulties girls between 13-18 find themselves faced with in a world of social media pressure and celebrity culture by raising their aspirations and self-worth. One of the ways in which they do this is through their “Big Sister” mentoring programme which they launched in 2010. Through this, they recruit models from diverse backgrounds that spend 12 months with the girls to embed a more empowering mindset into them, which in turn will help them improve exam success, broaden their goals and ultimately help them find their own voice.
This story shows how Missguided supports Goal 5: Gender Equality, specifically Target 5.5: “Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life.”
Established in 2009, Missguided is a UK-based fashion retailer that aims to empower females globally to be confident in themselves and be who they want to be by providing affordable rapid fashion.
