Punch Pubs & Co is supporting Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
Punch Pubs & Co, one of the largest pub companies in the UK, have launched their first ever ESG report to share their commitment to a better world by 2030.
Pubs, people, promises
Pubs have long been an iconic cornerstone of British culture. They’re often a much loved place to relax, socialise and have a good time for many neighbourhoods and communities.
As the hospitality industry continues to face rising cost pressures, it’s more important than ever to make changes so that pubs remain sustainable, relevant, and appealing to everyone.
Punch’s ‘Promise’ is their own pledge to embed sustainable practices into their business, for a long-standing future.
From local to global
Everyone’s got their favourite local, but Punch are ensuring that their sustainability efforts contribute to the communities they serve, and the wider global needs. Using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as the foundation of their ESG strategy does just this.
They have identified four priority Sustainable Development Goals for their business, to make meaningful and measurable change.
These include Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being; Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy; Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth; and Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
Sustainable hospitality
Punch have adopted ambitious and measurable targets to make sure their sustainability commitments are achieved.
From aiming for 30% energy consumption reduction in their Management Partnerships pubs and at their Head Office by the end of 2026 to support the UK Government’s 2035 electricity decarbonisation target; to doubling the sales of low and no-alcohol drinks by 2025 and promoting mental and physical well-being within the communities they serve - the business is fully committed to improving all aspects of sustainability.
Pump-ing positivity
Punch have created a range of initiatives to take action towards their targets. For example, their ‘Push the Pineapple’ programme promotes a safer and happier working environment, and the ‘Pineapple Parcels’ scheme prevents food waste, as employees buy surplus food to take home.
By launching their first ever ESG report, Punch have proudly started their sustainability journey. Plus, they plan to seamlessly integrate ESG information into their annual reporting cycle, to communicate their contributions to a more sustainable future.
This case study shows how Punch Pubs & Co supports Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Prodution, specifically Target 12.6: Encourage companies to adopt sustainable practices and sustainability reporting.”
